We learned more about Klaus’ and Lucien’s history this week. The episode opens with a flashback to the Court of Marseilles in 1002 A.D. The Mikaelsons were happy during this time, and Lucien was a much different person than who he is in the present.
Lucien asks Klaus to deliver a love note to Aurora, explaining that he can’t go near Aurora because of her brother, Tristan. Klaus agrees to deliver the note but lies and says that Aurora wouldn’t accept the note. The truth is that Aurora is already in love with another man, and that man is Klaus.
While Klaus and Aurora are kissing, Lucien walks in. Aurora tells him to leave because she believes the guards have followed him. He’s upset and tries to tell Aurora that Klaus is a beast. The guards arrive. Klaus runs, but Lucien is caught.
Tristan is punishing Lucien when Klaus enters the chambers. Klaus tries to reason with him, but he doesn’t listen. Tristan knows they are beasts, and that they are hiding because there is something out there that is more savage then them.
Before Tristan strikes Lucien again, Klaus grabs his neck. Tristan threatens to inform everyone that savages are seeking haven in the castle. Klaus lets him go. And Tristan says that they are very alike – they both want to protect their families. Lucien then turns to Lucien and slices his mouth open.
Later, Klaus brings Lucien water. When Lucien sees his reflection he begins to cry, and he grabs Klaus’ knife and stabs him. Lucien then accidentally stabs himself. And because Klaus’ blood was still on the blade, Lucien’s wounds begin to heal. Klaus realizes that his blood can heal people.
Now that Lucien is healed, he goes after Tristan. However, he is stabbed by a guard before he can attack. Lucien dies. It isn’t long after this that Klaus realizes that when someone dies when vampire blood in their system, they will turn in a vampire. Now a vampire, Lucien starts feeding on the innocent.
Several years later, Klaus will tell Elijah that he and Lucien brought out the worst in each other, and in some ways they made each other who they are. Klaus also tells Elijah that he wished that he would have killed Lucien back then.
Present:
Klaus and Elijah are still at odds. And when Klaus ask Elijah when he will be forgiven, Elijah says that he will considering forgiving when Hayley forgives him, Gia rises from the dead, and Hell freezes over.
Meanwhile, Klaus’ old friend gets visited by Detective Will Kinney. Detective Kinney has a few questions for Lucien. While Lucien is being brought to the station, Cami and Vincent are working on the murder cases. Cami tells Vincent that she believes that Lucien is the killer. After Vincent gets a call, they head down to the police station.
Hayley is on-edge, and Jackson decides to do something about it. He calls Freya to babysit and takes Hayley to Marcel’s vampire fight club. The two spar. When Hayley accidentally makes him bleed, the sparring session turns into a steamy scene. The two aren’t seen again.
Marcel is giving orders to his vampires when a mysterious woman shows up. She says that she has an offer for him. When asked what her name is, she says it is Aya. Marcel doesn’t seem to want to listen to her offer, so she begins to take out his men. Marcel holds his own against Aya until she drugs him.
Back at the police station, Lucien is being questioned. He says that he is bored and compels Detective Kenney to leave and asks to speak to Cami alone. Against Vincent’s protest, she agrees to go in. Lucien tells Cami that he’s a “ruthless, unstoppable killer,” but he’s not responsible for the recent murders. Cami does not look like she believed him.
Klaus and Elijah visit Lucien’s penthouse, but he’s not there. The woman who told Klaus about the prophecy is there instead. She lets Elijah see his future. In Elijah’s future, Lucien is shown using Cami and Marcel as part of his plan.
Klaus leaves to find Cami, and Elijah goes after Marcel. However, when Elijah arrives to Marcel’s place he isn’t there. Josh tells him what happened, and Elijah finds a card that she left behind. Aya is a part of Elijah’s sire line.
When Marcel comes-to, Aya tells him that she can help him solve the daylight ring problem and become King of New Orleans again. She also explains that she belongs to the oldest society of vampires. Elijah finds them and demands to know why they are town. Tristan arrives, and updates Elijah on the war between the sires. He also tells Elijah that Klaus cannot kill Lucien. He believes that Lucien has or knows where the weapon that can kill an Original is.
While Elijah and Tristan are chatting, Klaus goes to the police station. Lucien says that he is only in town to protect Klaus and that it is Tristan who is murdering the people in town. Detective Kinney enters to inform Lucien that’s he is free to go, but he needs to stay in town. They found another murder victim, and since Lucien was in custody, it couldn’t have been him.
Lucien leaves as Klaus watches from an alley, ready to kill him. Klaus believes that Lucien needs to die. Before he acts, Elijah stops him. Elijah tells him what Tristan said and later proposes a plan. Elijah wants to get the weapon from Lucien.
Afterwards, he is going to use it on Lucien and Tristan. Thinking that Elijah has forgiven him, Klaus apologizes and says that he “strayed a little too far from the shores of reason.” He also says that Elijah will “never fall by my hand.” Instead of responding, Elijah leaves the room. Hopefully the brotherly duo will be back to normal soon. It is difficult seeing Klaus and Elijah being at odds.
The episode ends with Aurora, surrounded by dead monks, leaving a voicemail for her brother. She says that she will be in New Orleans soon.
